What if there was a whole franchise of history-themed comic-books titled after all the major countries and empires around the world, throughout history, and they came out in chronological order? And they’re really long-running so that they not only hit all the major points in that place’s history,…

I think it’d make more sense not to be totally in chronological order. Maybe do arcs and sets in that order so that you can get a run of event tieing together.

But restricting it that way sort of causes several problems like when it should end, missing key events that maybe the author didn’t know enough about at the time and it sorta nails down your pacing instead of being able to set it up well.

It’d still be easy to just illustrate the timeline and have a preamble before a new time period to set the scene, especially if it was a digital comic, which I think would make more sense in general.

More life drawing from class earlier. But I don’t know if it counts as a class if there’s only one/no other student. Then again private session with nude old man is a bit too descriptive…

Colouring these takes so damn long for such a simple task.

At least it’s worth it for results.

Also props to H0lyhandgrenade for the clean inking of these. Clean up’s a slow thankless job and it looks far better than my messy pencil lines.

I just realised I never posted this life drawing here after amending it to my portfolio oversaturated with life drawing.

The top picture is just a regular life drawing, the other 4 feature figures from the Paper Dolls, a gymnastic group our course went to sketch one day. It was great to draw them, moving around hanging from ropes and swinging back and forth.

Though if you’ve ever tried to do a sketches of someone who was literally in constant motion, you’d know why these drawings collected onto 4 pages are all I culled from a whole sketchbook of the day.

I also did this fanart of the french RPG game ‘Off’. It’s such a fantastic game, for reasons that have very little to do with the gameplay (though it has pretty good puzzles). I recommend it highly to everyone, even the basic experience is great before you go down to the deeper meaning of it.

For a while this morning in my life drawing class it was just me, the lecturer and the naked old man. So naturally I just drew him for extended periods of time, as any artist would.

Games I will never make: Super Dysfunctional Brothers

I thought it would be amusing to post the ideas that pop into my head for games that are too ambitious or not deep enough to ever plan on actually making.
So here’s one of them…

Super Dysfunctional Brothers is basically the Mario aesthetic meets Heavy Rain mechanics and themes.

It’s the story of two brothers, Timothy and Tony, who have always had a rocky relationship and not talked in years. One day, Tony shows up at Timothy’s house in big trouble. He’s wanted for murder and needs Timothy’s help. Timothy reluctantly agrees as he is caught up in a tangled web he knows so little of, and questions if he can really be sure his trouble maker brother actually is innocent.


The mechanics are similar to how you play Heavy Rain, with very simple point and click style movement and interaction with objects and conversations with people. But the interactions cause very bubbly cheerful interactions. A high pitched cheery sound effect plays as you move over to pick up the murder weapon. The music is all retro catchy tunes. Little achievements pop up with light hearted pun titles.

The actual 3D character models are very realistic, but you can run and jump around like a cartoon, sliding as you stop and having impossibly high double jumps. You have can have a fight scene that has text art going BAF PIF and POW.

Of course the dramatic climax where one brother dies has a sound effect like dieing pacman as the brother turns into tiny red particles and fades out.

Me and H0lyhandgrenade started a new challenge thing. Every day we draw a panel about something that happened that day. We have to be as literalist as possible, not editing things to be more entertaining. It’s interesting, and really highlights the dull days when all I can show is me at my animation desk.

I’ve mostly been animating cycles recently (apart from a different project I’ll post about tomorrow) and I don’t think non-looping animations clips under 2 seconds make the best posts, but I just made a sprite sheet! Only the parts that actually animate are sketched here because the static stuff can be copy pasted when it’s being inked. You can marvel at the hair at least.

If you’ve never played the game Theme Hospital or say, been to a real hospital, this might seem weird. Basically the game is about running a hospital succesfully, to keep everyone happy and healthy. Patients often complain about the mess though, despite the fact that the biggest source of mess is people vomiting in the hallways instead of the massive bathroom I built for this small sized hospital. It’s tough managing a hospital.

Blind kids have a lot of trouble in the Pokemon universe. It’d be a lot easier if they weren’t being chucked out of their house to go on their own at the age of 10. Frankly I’m amazed that Blind Jimmy was able to reach the area with Gyarados.

So I started playing Chivalry, basically a medieval shooter game except without much shooting. More swinging and stabbing. There’s still bows though, and some crossbows. Yep. …I’m not very good.
